Doctor's Profile

About Dr. Akash Kataruka
Electrophysiologist
Dr. Akash Kataruka
is a cardiac electrophysiologist, specializing in the management of heart rhythm disorders. He is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions, integrating state of the art procedural techniques and emerging scientific evidence, for cardiac arrhythmias and device implantation.
Dr. Kataruka completed undergraduate training and medical school at Case Western Reserve University, where he graduated summa cum laude and was recognized with the Golden Humanism Award. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Michigan, followed by general cardiology at the University of Washington, where he served as assistant professor. After discovering a passion for heart rhythm disorders, he pursued advanced electrophysiology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern University.
He has extensive experience performing complex ablations for atrial arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation (using both thermal and pulsed field ablation), ethanol venous ablation for advanced persistent AF, supraventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions, and ventricular tachycardia. Dr. Kataruka is skilled in device implantation, including conduction system pacemakers, leadless pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, subcutaneous defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy. For patients intolerant to anticoagulation, he offers left atrial appendage occlusion devices (e.g., Watchman).
Outside of medicine, Dr. Kataruka enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and learning guitar.
Currently seeing patients at our Berwyn, Mokena, and Palos Park Clinics.
